Purpose : Assessment of pain where correct self-evaluation of the pain intensity experienced is no longer possible mild or moderate cognitive impairment (often as a result of dementia or degenerative diseases).

Content : The Abbey Pain Scale assessment is performed by a proxy-rater who observes the subject and evaluates the presence of eight pain-related behaviours from 0 to 3 – representing increasing presence of the behaviour in three sections.
